Artist Statement

As a self-taught artist, my present work and organic style come from a range of factors: from all kinds of impulses, from a friend’s influence, from the search for a language that inspires me to continue with infinite artistic experimentation, in addition to the intuitive necessary that every artist possesses. Yet what binds all these elements together is their guiding concept: Life. At the personal level, I strongly believe that the pleasure of painting exists in the process. Over the last eight years, I have been working on making handmade art paper, which is the prime medium of my artwork. Moreover, I feel very comfortable doing my artwork on handmade art paper.

My paintings are simple and practical, intended to establish a personal connection at first glance and develop intense contours from anxious dark lines to bright and dramatic colors; the result of the primal pleasure of painting from the heart. Our country Bangladesh is predominantly a plains land. The panoramic expanse of green, interspersed with meandering rivers, extends from the horizon. The monsoons sustain this flat verdure. The dark billowing clouds bring rain and then, as the rain passes, the skies clear and light up the landscape, rejuvenated and cleansed. Woven into this tapestry is the ballad of a people’s aspirations and end devours, their vicissitudes and struggles, their agony and ecstasies, their everyday existence, and their dreams. The scale and the scope of expression rest on the extent of the artist’s individual experience. It is in this context that art sales have singular relevance in the making and re-making of an artist.
